Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today called on Republicans to support her bill to ban bump stocks following Acting ATF Director Thomas Brandon’s testimony that regulation of bump stocks is likely to be challenged in court:
“ATF Director Brandon acknowledged in our public hearing that banning bump stocks through regulation is likely to be challenged in court, and that the best way to achieve a ban on bump stocks is passing a law. If Republicans actually want to get bump stocks off our streets, they will support our legislation.”
When asked if a regulation could be challenged in court, Brandon said, “I’ve been told that by some attorneys, yes, sir.”
When asked whether a passing legislation was a preferable to regulation, Brandon replied, “As a career guy, 30 years, the law is clearly the best route.”
