Durbin Meets with Mexican Senator to Discuss U.S.-Mexico Relationship

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today met with five Mexican Senators who represent the five largest parties in Mexico.  During today’s meeting, they discussed U.S.-Mexico relations, migration in the region, the need for immigration reform in the U.S., the flow of illegal weapons primarily from the United States to Mexico, and the Mexican Senate’s interest in reactivating the U.S.-Mexico Inter-Parliamentary Group between the upper chambers. 

“The issues I discussed today with members of the Mexican Senate – such as migration in the region and the illegal flow of weapons across the border to Mexico – must be addressed by Mexico in conjunction with its allies, including the U.S.,” said Durbin.  “I look forward to our two nations continuing to work together on our shared interests and strengthening democratic values.”

The Mexican Senators in attendance at today’s meeting included Senators Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, Miguel Ángel Mancera, Nadia Navarro, and Noé Castañón.
