Feinstein: Death of ‘Election Commission’ Long Overdue

WashingtonSenate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement in reaction to the decision to disband the so-called Commission on Election Integrity.

“The demise of the so-called Commission on Election Integrity is long overdue. There has never been a shred of evidence to back up Donald Trump’s outrageous claims of widespread voter fraud, and this commission was a distraction and waste of taxpayer dollars.

“While putting an end to this commission was the right decision, I am concerned about ongoing efforts by the Trump Justice Department to undermine voting rights by reversing its position in key voting rights cases. States across the country continue to make it harder for African-Americans, Latinos, the elderly and low-income Americans to vote. The Justice Department should be leading the fight to protect access to the ballot boxes—not pushing restrictive laws that limit voting.

“Protecting the rights of all Americans to vote by enacting a new Voting Rights Act must be a top priority this Congress.”
