Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released the following statement on Google’s decision to remove videos feature Anwar al-Awlaki from YouTube:
“Google took the proper action of removing more than 55,000 propaganda videos featuring Anwar al-Awlaki from YouTube. Despite his death six years ago, al-Awlaki has remained the most significant jihadist radicalizer in the United States, and his messages of hatred and violence have no place online.
“I have consistently advocated for the removal of these videos and applaud Google’s efforts to combat terrorist propaganda.
“Online terrorist propaganda is one of the most complex issues we face. The ability for terrorists to draw new recruits to their cause in an entirely anonymous fashion is incredibly dangerous. We must challenge and expose these recruitment methods, and making these videos harder to find is a positive step in the right direction.”
