Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released the following statement after President Trump once again attacked Attorney General Jeff Sessions:
“President Trump has signaled for months that he’s considering firing Attorney General Sessions because of a perceived lack of loyalty. The attorney general serves the people, not the president.
“This week, President Trump was implicated in federal campaign finance crimes by his former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. While I have opposed many of the actions taken by Attorney General Sessions, it would be unacceptable for the president to fire him now in order to install someone willing to subvert the Mueller investigation. I, for one, believe Congress must do all it can to stop such an act.
“Special Counsel Mueller must be allowed to continue his investigation unimpeded, and that includes no interference from the White House or the attorney general.”
