Feinstein Remarks on Pitlyk Eastern District Nomination

Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today highlighted concerns with Sarah Pitlyk, President Trump’s nominee to the Eastern District of Missouri.

Video of the remarks is available here.

“I’d like to discuss the nomination of Sarah Pitlyk to the Eastern District of Missouri.

For the last two years, Ms. Pitlyk’s legal career has focused entirely on opposing women’s reproductive rights.

It’s my understanding that she has defended blatantly unconstitutional abortion bans and supported the Trump administration’s Title X gag rule, which forced Planned Parenthood out of the Title X program and has severely limited access to health care for low-income women and families.

She’s also filed legal briefs containing misinformation.

In one brief, Ms. Pitlyk argued without credible evidence that physicians who provide abortion care “target ethnic minorities” and that “racism plays a profound role in the delivery of abortion services.”

In her personal capacity, Ms. Pitlyk has said that the Supreme Court’s reproductive rights cases have “gross defects,” and that the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act was “unprincipled.”

I’m concerned about her ability to fairly and impartially apply these important precedents given her strong personal views and will be voting No.”
