Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the administration’s failure to meet a court deadline to reunite immigrant children under age 5 with their parents:
“The Trump administration has failed to meet the court deadline to reunite all children under the age of 5 with their parents. The government has now admitted in court that parents have been deported without their children; the whereabouts of many parents are unknown; and in at least in one case, the separated parent and child may be U.S. citizens.
“It’s devastating that children were taken from their parents with absolutely no plan to reunite them, wreaking untold havoc on the lives of thousands of children. These children could be traumatized for the rest of their lives.
“This is an abject failure and a betrayal of American values. The administration is implementing policies to impose maximum harm on immigrant children and families. Congress has a moral obligation to stop this, since the Trump administration has demonstrated that it lacks the competency to do so.”
