Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the shooting in Pittsburgh:
"I’m heartbroken by the tragic shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. This is an act of hate, plain and simple.
"The fatal combination of hatred and easy access to deadly assault weapons has left at least 10 dead and four police officers wounded. Ours is the only country in the world that lets civilians so easily access weapons of war.
"We can’t ignore the recent spike in hate crimes and the pervasive effect of giving a wink and a nod to hate groups and those who would commit violence. It is incumbent upon all of us to condemn the anti-Semitic hatred that led to this atrocity. We must also do more to enact commonsense policies that would prevent dangerous people from getting weapons of war."
