Feinstein Statement on Request for Voter Information

Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement in response to the request for state voter information by President Trump’s Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity:

“I’m alarmed that the president’s so-called voter-fraud commission has requested personal data and voting history from all American voters—with absolutely no legal basis for doing so. The breadth of this request and complete lack of information about what the commission intends to do with the data is troubling.

“The individuals selected by President Trump to serve on this commission have troubling backgrounds that display a hostility toward protecting the voting rights of all Americans, which makes this request all the more concerning.

“Secretary of State Alex Padilla made the right call in refusing to turn over California’s voter registration data.

“Yesterday, I joined Senator Klobuchar in requesting information regarding how this commission will comply with federal transparency laws. We have very little information about how this commission will conduct its business and no assurances that it will do so fairly and openly.

“According to the Brennan Center, more people are hit by lightning than commit in-person voter fraud. This commission is set up for the sole purpose of furthering the president’s lies about voter fraud and making it harder for Americans to exercise their right to vote.”
