Feinstein Statement on Wray Nomination

Washington—Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on her vote in support of Christopher Wray’s nomination to be FBI Director:

“The FBI is our country’s top law enforcement agency and it needs a qualified leader committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting its independence. I’m confident that Christopher Wray is up to that considerable task.

“He said he would resign if President Trump asked him to do anything illegal, and that he would consider any effort to tamper with Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation to be unacceptable. A wide range of former Justice Department officials—including Eric Holder and Sally Yates—endorsed his nomination.

“I had questions about Wray’s potential involvement in reviewing the Bush administration’s legal justification for torture, but he made clear that torture is ‘illegal and ineffective’ and that he had no role in drafting the Office of Legal Counsel memos.

“I look forward to working with Christopher Wray and support his nomination.”
