Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement in support of the Background Check Expansion Act, which would expand the requirement that federally licensed gun dealers conduct background checks to private sellers:
“It’s been just three weeks since nearly 60 people were slaughtered at a concert. We must not allow the country to resume business as usual after the deadliest mass shooting in our country’s history. We’re going to keep pushing for commonsense policies to reduce gun violence, and chief among them is closing the glaring loophole in the background check process.
“No one should be able to buy a gun without a background check. Period. This policy is a no-brainer that 90 percent of Americans support, including 77 percent of gun owners. It would make our communities safer by ensuring that prohibited individuals can’t proceed with a gun purchase.
"I’m proud to join Senator Chris Murphy in introducing the Background Check Expansion Act, which would keep weapons out of the hands of dangerous individuals and save lives.”
