The Committee also advanced two U.S. Marshal nominees
WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee today advanced Thomas E. Brown, to be United States Marshal forthe Northern District of Georgia, and Kirk M. Taylor, to be United States Marshal for the District of Colorado, by voice vote.
The Committee also advanced S. 673, the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA), sponsored by Senators Klobuchar and Kennedy.
U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Judiciary Committee and cosponsor of the JCPA, released the following statement praising its passage out of Committee:
“Local news is essential to keep our communities informed, especially during times of crisis. But with the dominance of Big Tech platforms like Google and Facebook, many small and local journalism outlets are going out of business. This bipartisan bill will help preserve high-quality, local journalism by allowing news organizations to negotiate in good faith for fair compensation from the tech giants profiting from the use of their content.”
