Senate Confirms Beth Robinson to the Second Circuit and Toby Heytens to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Beth Robinson to be United States Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit and Toby Heytens to be United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit.  Justice Robinson was confirmed by a bipartisan vote of 51-45 and Mr. Heytens was confirmed by a bipartisan vote of 53-43.  U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Justice Robinson’s and Mr. Heytens’s confirmation:

“Justice Robinson is an experienced litigator and respected jurist with a proven evenhanded approach to justice.  And her credentials are impeccable.  Justice Robinson is independent minded and highly qualified, and she will be a valuable addition to the Second Circuit.

“Mr. Heytens is an exceptionally accomplished appellate advocate whose breadth of experience and fairmindedness will make him an asset to the Fourth Circuit.  Mr. Heytens is a dedicated public servant whose career is a testament to the evenhanded approach that we need in the federal judiciary.  I’m pleased both nominees were confirmed today on a bipartisan basis.”

Last month, Justice Robinson received a 10-9 vote to advance out of Committee. In September, Mr. Heytens advanced out of Committee by a bipartisan vote of 14-8.
