Senate Confirms Salvador Mendoza to Ninth Circuit

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Judge Salvador Mendoza to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Judge Mendoza’s confirmation:

“Judge Mendoza is a highly experienced jurist with a life-long commitment to public and community service. He has distinguished himself on the bench, presiding over dozens of trials and demonstrating evenhandedness and impartiality in all matters that have come before him. And today, Judge Mendoza makes history as the first judge of Hispanic origin to sit on a Washington seat on the Ninth Circuit.”

In June, Judge Mendoza advanced out of the Judiciary Committee with a bipartisan vote of 11-9-2.

The Senate has now confirmed 80 Article III judges during the 117th Congress. This includes 21 circuit court nominees, 58 district court nominees, and one Supreme Court nominee. These judges bring high levels of competence, outstanding qualifications, and greater demographic and professional diversity to our federal bench.
