Durbin Statement on One Year Anniversary of Murder of George Floyd

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd:

“His name was George Floyd.  He was a 46-year-old Black man.  He was a father, a brother, a son, a friend.  He died on the streets of Minneapolis with the knee of a police officer on his neck—an image that haunts me to this day.  The injustice of his killing is undeniable.  And so is the fact that systemic racism continues to plague America—including in far too many interactions between law enforcement and Black and Brown Americans"

“This first anniversary serves as a sober reminder of why we must make real change and continue working to move our nation nearer to the goal of a system of justice that is applied equally to all.”
