WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Richard Federico to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Mr. Federico’s confirmation:
“Mr. Federico’s experience serving as a federal public defender, as a prosecutor and defense lawyer in the Navy JAG Corps, and as a military judge in the Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary have prepared him to serve honorably on the federal bench. His qualifications and dedication to public service earned him the support of Kansas Senators Moran and Marshall, a testament to his commitment to equal justice for all.
“I congratulate Mr. Federico on becoming the thirty-ninth Circuit Court judge confirmed under President Biden, and the latest example of the Senate Judiciary Committee advancing highly qualified nominees who will ensure a fair justice system for all.”
On September 28, 2023, Mr. Federico advanced out of the Judiciary Committee in a 13-8 vote.
Today’s confirmation continues the Committee’s work filling judicial vacancies with highly qualified, diverse candidates who help ensure the fair and impartial administration of the American justice system.
Under the leadership of Chair Durbin, the Senate has confirmed 162 judges to lifetime appointments on the federal bench during the Biden administration. Following Mr. Federico’s confirmation, eighteen lifetime judges – including two circuit court nominees and fourteen district court nominees – are eligible for a vote on the Senate floor.
