Grassley Releases Republican Report on Review of Trump’s management of Justice Department following 2020 Election
Report cites senior DOJ officials who say Trump followed advice and recommendations of senior advisors on election-related decisions
WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate
Judiciary Committee, today released the committee Republicans’ report on the
committee’s review of former President Trump’s management of the Justice
Department following the 2020 presidential election. The investigation was launched by Chairman
Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) in January. This report coincides with committee Democrats’
report based on the same universe of information.
“The
transcripts of this investigation speak for themselves, and they paint a very
different picture from the left’s claims that the former president weaponized
the Justice Department to alter the election results. The available evidence
shows that President Trump did what we’d expect a president to do on an issue
of this importance: he listened to his senior advisors and followed their
advice and recommendations. Contrast that with President Biden’s actions on
Afghanistan. Biden ignored the advice of his generals and went ahead with a
reckless and disaster-filled withdrawal,” Grassley
said.
The
investigation focused on key events involving Trump and senior Justice
Department officials from December 14, 2020, to January 3, 2021. Along with
reviewing documents, the committee interviewed three former Justice Department
officials: Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen; Principal Deputy Assistant
Attorney General Richard Donoghue; and U.S. Attorney for the Northern District
of Georgia BJay Pak. Committee Democrats opted to release their report having
not yet received requested government documents and having not yet heard from
Jeffrey Clark, a former assistant attorney general and key figure of the
investigation.
The minority’s
report pulls directly from the witness transcripts to arrive at its findings.
