Grassley Seeks Details on Retired Senior FBI Official who Took Gifts from Reporter, then Misled Investigators about it
WASHINGTON – Senate
Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley requested details on a Justice
Department Inspector General investigation into a former Senior FBI official
who inappropriately accepted tickets to sporting events from TV news
correspondents who frequently cover the Justice Department and FBI.
According to the IG’s investigative
summary, the IG began investigating the matter after reviewing text
messages as a part of its pre-election review of actions by the FBI and
DOJ. When questioned by the IG, the FBI official reportedly said the
tickets were paid for before later admitting that they were provided as gifts.
The FBI official resigned during the IG’s investigation, and DOJ declined to
prosecute for unknown reasons.
In
a letter,
Grassley requested the full report on the investigation. Earlier this
year, Grassley convened a Judiciary
Committee hearing on the IG’s pre-election review.
