Grassley to Host Judiciary Member Briefing on Family Reunification

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) will host a briefing for committee members on the administration’s efforts to reunite families separated after illegally entering the country.  Officials from the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services will update the committee on the current progress and procedures to safely and efficiently reunite families.

In a letter yesterday to Senator Hirono, Grassley reiterated his stated commitment to ensuring families remain together and desire for bipartisan cooperation to prevent family separation while promoting enforcement of existing immigration laws.

“As a constant and consistent supporter of congressional oversight and accountability, I want to ensure that all Members of this Committee have a meaningful opportunity to engage with Administration officials and receive detailed, specific answers to their questions and concerns,” Grassley said in the letter to Hirono.

The member briefing is slated for Tuesday, July 17.
