Waterman Nominated to be U.S. Attorney for Iowa’s Southern District

WASHINGTON – Iowan David C. Waterman was nominated today by President Donald Trump to be the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) endorsed his nomination.

“I’m proud to endorse Mr. Waterman for the U.S. Attorney post in Iowa’s Southern District. Waterman’s decades of experience will allow him to faithfully and effectively serve the people of Iowa. He has my enthusiastic support and as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I'll work to move his nomination forward swiftly,” Grassley said

“I am proud to see Iowan David Waterman nominated by President Trump to serve as the U.S. Attorney for Iowa’s Southern District,” Ernst said. “Senator Grassley and I advocated for Waterman’s nomination because of his selfless service to our state and nation throughout his career.”

Waterman’s nomination now heads to the Senate Judiciary Committee for vetting and consideration. The full Senate will vote on the nomination after receiving the Committee’s recommendation. President Trump is expected to announce the Northern District of Iowa U.S. Attorney nominee soon.

Background:

Waterman is a fifth-generation attorney at Lane & Waterman LLP in Davenport. Previously, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the Appellate and Criminal Divisions of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. Prior to serving as an AUSA, Waterman gained federal court experience clerking for Judge Michael J. Melloy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit from 2015 to 2016, Judge Mark W. Bennett on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa from 2014 to 2015 and Judge John A. Jarvey on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa from 2013 to 2014.
